Ray Deatherage is a Senior Program Manager with GTI and perform research and development work to advance the energy industry. He has been in the natural gas distribution industry for 28+ years. During this time, he has been involved with the development, delivery, and maintenance of natural gas first responder training programs for utility and local government personnel (e.g., Fire Department, Police, Municipal, etc.) for 14+ years. Lastly, he has been actively involved in the evaluation, development, and deployment of VR/AR/XR training technologies for the past 4+ years.
GTI has been evaluating and developing VR/AR/XR training content for the energy industry over the past two years and is in the process of developing an entire training library of content for the industry. Currently, there are seven VR training modules available to the natural gas industry for training field personnel on how to perform simple gas meter safety inspections to more hazardous activities, such as, responding to natural gas emergencies. GTI also leads a VR/AR/XR Users Committee for the energy industry which provides input on new content development projects, feedback on enhancements to current training content, and recommendations for new VR/AR/XR platform features.
